This Community is one of 15 Parishes and 7 Missions that form the Antiochian Orthodox Archdiocese of the British Isles and Ireland. For several years, it was under the care of the Patriarch of Antioch, His Beatitude John X (above left) who was elected to the Patriarchate in 2013, succeeding Patriarch Ignatius IV of Blessed Memory. Then in February 2016 the Archdiocese with great joy welcomed their newly enthroned Metropolitan Silouan Oner (above centre). He has charge of the Antiochian Cathedral of St George in London and all the parishes and missions in the British Isles and Ireland. The Priest of this very friendly Community is Fr Alban Campbell (above right) who is also the Priest of the Orthodox Church of St Aethelheard in Louth.
This mission Church in Grimsby. (See History) was started by Fr Michael Harry, then Assistant Priest at Louth. For several years, the Community was dependant on the hospitality of other churches; but, in October 2009, thanks to the help of many people, an agreement was signed with North East Lincolnshire Council to use the southern Cemetery Chapel, which for many years had been used as a workshop and storeroom. It has become the worshipping home for Orthodox Christians from many traditions and grown steadily. Fr Alban, having served as Deacon to the churches in Louth and Grimsby since May 2014, was ordained to the priesthood by Metropolitan Silouan at St Aethelheard’s Church, Louth in November 2016. On Fr Michael’s retirement, he has taken over charge of this community and the Parish of St Aethelheard.
